Unafraid
In response to today’s devotional entry, my family shared about what we are each most afraid of. I was surprised by some of the responses I heard. I encourage you and your family to discuss the same.
Wiltschek, the devotional author, validates the importance of working through “our very real emotions,” including fear. I like that he does not dismiss fear as something we should–or can–simply push away by sheer will. Instead, he shows us that a life of faith can lead us to “something beyond fear.” That’s where we find God’s perfect love for us. Isn’t that verse from I John 4:18 wonderful: “Perfect love casts out fear.”

I agree, Lois. I've even read that one cannot experience courage without fear. Courage comes into a situation because one is afraid but chooses to move ahead in spite of the fear. Without the fear, one doesn't need to be brave to proceed.
It is unfortunate that sometimes our fears paralyze us into inaction instead of spurring us to bravery. But, when I look to history for examples, there are many examples of those who used their fear to drive them forward.
