In response to today’s devotional entry, my family shared about what we are each most afraid of. I was surprised by some of the responses I heard. I encourage you and your family to discuss the same.
Wiltschek, the devotional author, validates the importance of working through “our very real emotions,” including fear. I like that he does not dismiss fear as something we should–or can–simply push away by sheer will. Instead, he shows us that a life of faith can lead us to “something beyond fear.” That’s where we find God’s perfect love for us. Isn’t that verse from I John 4:18 wonderful: “Perfect love casts out fear.”
Fear is not always frightening. At least not when it inspires courage.
