During the August 8 Church Board meeting, the group heard a presentation from the Music and Worship Assessment Committee. This committee was convened at the request of the Board to assess our needs and preferences regarding music and worship. Team members were: Beth DeGoede, Ralph Detrick, Desiree Weaver-Spidel, Nancy Hivner, Jacob Bradley and Karen Ungemach. Pastor Naomi represented the pastoral team.
After several weeks of analysis, the group prepared several recommendations which were then shared with more than 30 church members for additional input prior to presentation to the Board.
Approved actions are:
Hiring a part-time Music Coordinator to engage laity participation in worship music
Activating a music component of Children’s Faith Formation
The Board also approved formation of a search committee to immediately begin the search process for the two positions. Jim Hollinger and Beth DeGoede will chair the search committee. Several members of the assessment committee will also serve on the search committee along with Ben Hoover from Human Resources. Their work is beginning immediately. Members of the congregation are encouraged to provide names of qualified candidates to the church office to support the search and selection efforts.
As this work gets underway, we want to thank our substitute musicians who are providing worship music during this interim time. We are also pleased that Lynne Hockley will be working on music for children in Faith Formation and Karen Ungemach is working to coordinate the activities of an ensemble. We are fortunate to have many talented and passionate musicians in our congregation. We look forward to new leaders whose talents will enrich these gifts and our worship services.
