About the event

What do a Dutch cookie, a Lancaster factory, and a group of women from a variety of countries have in common? They are all part of the Stroopie story. And you can find out more about it by joining the Prime Time sponsored tour of the factory and sweet shoppe on Fri, Oct 25.

A stroopwafel (Stroopie in the US) is a Dutch cookie made here in Lancaster city. The story of stroopies is about so much more than making cookies. It is a story of vision and caring. The company exists to “provide meaningful employment to resettled refugee women in Lancaster.” The Stroopie family provides paid English lessons, a place to learn life skills for living in America, group educational field trips, a community of friends in a safe and welcoming environment.

We will visit the factory, hear about their history, and enjoy meeting the women who work there. Then we will visit the Lancaster Sweet Shoppe where Stroopies, home-made ice cream and candies are sold. We will end the morning visiting the Southern Market where entrepreneurs from a variety of countries offer delicious foods for lunch.

We will leave the church parking lot around 9 am and travel via van to the factory. Parking is very limited. We will have to limit our numbers to about twenty. There may be a small fee involved but that is not certain at this point.

Sign-ups will begin in mid-September in the Memorial Lobby or call and register with Gina Strouse or the church office. We hope you will join us to see and learn how others are caring for the refugees in our midst.
