Theme: “Hot and Hungry,” 1 Kings 17:7-16
During a time of drought and famine, a widow with her son was asked for food by the prophet Elijah. Her response, “I am preparing to make a last meal, and then we will die” alongside her willingness to trust God’s provision, demonstrates both hope and despair (1 Kings 17:7-16). As Christians, we are called to a ministry of caring for our neighbors and all of God’s creation; we are called to a ministry of living in hope amidst despair. The overlapping crises climate change and food insecurity are dire, but the possibilities for response are dynamic. In the past years, millions of people have entered or reentered extreme food insecurity due to disruptions caused by the effects of climate change. Significant changes are needed to slow and reverse climate change, as well as support communities…
