I like the wording of the concluding paragraph of this entry, in which Wiltschek repeats, “the light continued to shine,” regardless of what is happening in scenario after scenario. That is very comforting.
Curious to learn more about the Latin phrase, I googled Numen Lumen. I find it interesting that the first several links refer to its use as the motto for the University of Wisconsin. There seems to be much controversy, or, at least, discussion, as to what the phrase means in that context. This explanation is from the University of Wisconsin Alumni Association website:
The phrase "Numen Lumen," developed as part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison's seal and motto, is Latin and can be translated to mean, "God, our light." But, according to a University Communications News Library article, the UW's first chancellor, John Lathrop, who assisted in the creation of the motto, interpreted it to mean, "The divine within the universe, however manifested, is my light."
God goes by many names, within scripture and outside of it. I am grateful that regardless of what name we use, His light continues to shine! Numen Lumen!
"Numinous" is one of my favorite words.
