What a comfort these verses are! No matter what happens, nothing can separate us from the love of God. I never thought of Christ Jesus our Lord as superglue before, but that analogy makes sense.
In the New Testament, there are no promises that we’ll be free from any of the calamities listed verse 35: hardship, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, sword. I have questions about that, but I guess God has His reasons. I do appreciate that no matter what happens to us, we are not alone. These verses tell us that we are “adhered” to God’s love through Jesus.
I have always read these comforting words as God initiating the action. God is with us! No matter what! But the author says, "As we adhere to Christ, our lives are held together in that love, and our broken places are mended." And he asks, "What steps can help you strengthen that connection?" It seems like he is saying that we are just as responsible for that connection as God is. We need to take action, too, to strengthen that bond. But, I have a feeling that God is taking the first step. Thanks be to God!
