Was the author of Matthew really privy to the dreams of the magi and of Joseph? I have often wondered about this.
But, dreams are remarkable happenings. So, I have no doubt that this subconscious life that we have while dreaming is where we can meet the divine and receive life-changing insight.
The devotional author urges us to listen for God’s voice as we slumber and awaken with renewed vigor. What tender words of encouragement those are!
I am amazed at how often you come up with insights and questions that I had not thought of, even after careful consideration. I appreciate the way you look at things, Amy! Yes, how would others know what was in those dreams? I guess somewhere along the line, Joseph and the Wise Men must have told someone. Or, did the author Matthew simply supply a plausible explanation of his own for several mysteries in the story? Hmmmm . . .
I, too, appreciated the devotional author's wishes for us to have sweet dreams of "fearless living." Your description of that as "tender" is spot on. It sounds more appropriate than sugarplums dancing in our heads. I hope your dreams are lovely!
