There are so many groups who are marginalized in our society, somewhat like the shepherds were in the time of Jesus’s birth.
How grateful we are that Jesus came for ALL people! And how wonderful that the angel sought out the “lowly” shepherds to whom to bring the “good news of great joy”! That choice certainly put the “last first” right from the start!
The devotional author points out that fear ruled the day in those times, but Jesus’s arrival changed that focus. The angel’s first words in that new era were “Do not be afraid.” What a gift!
