Spiritual Formation for Youth

Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young:
see that they look up to you because you are an example of believers
in your speech and behavior, in your love and faith and sincerity.

I Timothy 4:12

Youth are not only the Church of tomorrow, they are the Church of today!

altBoth Middle School and Senior High Youth have active roles in worship and participate in Spiritual Formation classes, service projects, district events, and special clubs that meet outside of worship.

Sunday morning Spiritual Formation Classes for youth are led by adult teams presenting topics of interest to teens and leading them to explore new ways of interpreting the Bible for their lives. Many topic ideas are generated by the students themselves.

Brethren Heritage

Designed for seventh graders

  • 10-12 week study
  • In this class, prospective members are formally introduced to the Church of the Brethren as a denomination and to the Elizabethtown Church as a congregation. During this time period, youth build relationships with the pastors and with an adult mentor who can offer advice and caring guidance through a time of change. These mentor relationships continue through high school and beyond. Youth are invited to participate in an immersion baptism and join the congregation in membership.

Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse

  • Designed for all junior and senior high youth
  • 10-13 week course taught once every three to four years
  • Taught by teachers specially trained through the services of the Samaritan Counseling Center
  • Because we value the safety of our youth, we consider it a privilege and wonderful opportunity to talk about these difficult issues in the context of being made in the image of God and to encourage and support families. This educational program teaches our young people about God's constant care, helps them recognize and deal with potentially dangerous situations, and identifies resources in our community and within our church to help young people who have been hurt.
