About our Centennial Logo

The logo shown here was created to reflect the theme of the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren's centennial celebration in 2002. The theme - "Learning to Live the Love of God" - is reflected by using simple lines and shapes to address the question: How are we learning to live the love of God?

Three general ways are illustrated by the human figures within the logo: one on bended knee with head bowed to represent prayer, one with arms lifted upward to show praise, and one with arms extended outward to symbolize service.

The circle that surrounds the figures represents unity. In the center of the circle is a cross. It is not a squared and rigid cross, but a more expressive, curving symbol of the Christ-centered faith that binds the congregation together. The lines that form the inside of the logo are all free-flowing brush strokes to create the effect of life and movement. The detectable shape of a dove at the foot of the cross is just one of those happy accidents of artful design.
