Adult Sunday School Classes |
|
We are not meant to remain as children at the mercy of every chance wind of teaching . . . but we are meant to speak the truth in love, and to grow up in every way into Christ, the head.Ephesians 4 : 14-15 Sunday morning adult classes use a variety of resources for Bible and topical studies. - Intersections - Intersections was formed as a place to question, explore, and learn together. The class has enjoyed both structured and unstructured discussions on faith, theology and other topics, speakers, video series and social events. There have been comfortable, safe discussions and those which have delved into more intimate talks that reveal a little more. Intersections is mostly made up of 30- and 40-somethings with and without children (mostly young). All are welcome.
- Discovery - Topical studies relating to faith, congregational and community life are offered. Outside speakers are frequently involved. This class is discussion oriented. The class participates in occasional service projects.
- Seekers - Open to adults of all ages, the Seekers class was formed to meet the needs of those looking for small and/or large group Bible Study with an emphasis on Life Application. Some studies coincide with the pastors' sermons or may relate to family or parenting issues. A facilitator leads the discussions and guest speakers are occasionally invited. The group enjoys fellowship activities within and beyond the church setting. In addition, the group supports at least one church outreach project each year.
- Good Shepherd - This class uses a discussion format to study from "A Guide for Biblical Studies", the Church of the Brethren quarterly that follows the International Sunday School lesson series. This class also shares the needs of class members and the congregation, and devotes time to prayer for these needs and blessings. People of all ages are welcome to join in the discussion of the lesson. This class has the oldest history in our congregation, as it started at the Washington Street church more than 60 years ago.
- Lafiya Fifth Sunday Forum - In months with five Sundays, all adult Sunday School groups meet together on the fifth Sunday during the regular Sunday School hour for a special forum topic. Guest speakers are often invited.
- Inquirers' classes are held periodically to provide interested persons with an introduction to the Elizabethtown Church of the Brethren congregation, Brethren heritage and beliefs, and our ministries and outreach efforts. These classes are led by our pastors and are scheduled periodically through the year. Inquirers' classes are for adults and youth older than 6th grade who are new to the congregation, have decided they want to become a member, have not decided they want to become a member, but have questions and want to learn more.
In addition, Special Interest classes are designed to meet topical subjects such as coping with grief, parenting, the challenges of single parenting and other interests as needed and desired. Typically, a class is scheduled for a 2 to 4 week period.
