A national campaign of riders and walkers for On Earth Peace, in honor of Paul Ziegler.

This spring and summer, people all over the country will be riding and walking and reaching out to raise funds for the proven and effective violence-prevention programs of On Earth Peace. On Earth Peace is a national nonprofit that has worked to cultivate individuals and communities for peacemaking since 1974. On Earth Peace works in three program areas: youth and young adult peace education, conflict resolution, and nonviolent social change. See www.OnEarthPeace.org for more information.

We know that violence is everywhere in our country and our world. If we don’t teach and promote peace, who will?

The 3000 Miles for Peace Campaign is in honor of Paul Ziegler, a young man from our congregation who planned to ride across the country for peace, but never got the chance.  Tragically, Paul died in a bicycle accident in September 2012. The 3000 Miles for Peace Campaign is a way to forward this young man’s vision.

All funds raised in the 3000 Miles for Peace Campaign will go to the Paul Ziegler Young Peacemaker Fund, which will help On Earth Peace

  • provide inner-city youth the skills to face the violence around them with creative nonviolence;
  • teach children at an early age what it takes to make peace, and then share their vision of a better world through public art projects;
  • train community leaders to develop effective violence-prevention projects in their neighborhoods.

On Earth Peace has a goal of raising $300,000 to forward the programs young peacemaker Paul Ziegler cared about. Our congregation is looking for $10,000 from our team.

We will meet at the Colebrook parking lot of the Lebanon Vally Rail Trail on May 4th.

Registration will be from 9:00-9:50 AM with a 10:00 departure. Please pre-register so we can get a handle on total numbers for the event and contact you for last minute changes.

Team members that cannot ride on May 4 are encouraged to ride or walk as a family or on their own as they are able.
